I started swimming on a team when I was 5 years old. I swam through elementary, high school and for my first two years at university in Russia until I moved to the US. I have been swimming with a great group of dedicated, creative swimmers for the past few years and I love it. When I am not swimming, I spend time with my family and take my son to swim team.

I started swimming at the age of 4. Highlights of my swimming career include participation at 3 Olympic games representing Lithuania as well as swimming for University of California, Berkeley. Currently I am coaching an age group swim team in Oakland and Masters swim team in El Cerrito.

I started swimming at the ripe old age of 28. At the time I was training for my first triathlon–and I didn’t want to swim the whole distance breaststroke! It was the only stroke I was familiar with, so I had to teach myself how to swim freestyle. In 2002, I joined a masters’ swimming team, and started swimming every day, six times a week. In 2005, not sure what I was thinking, I swam over 500,000 yards. It was the year after I competed for Team USA in the ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Sweden. (Perhaps this was the motivator!) It also made me realize that swimming more doesn’t necessarily make you faster. In fact, it often has the opposite effect.
